Hilton Head Island
The magical surrounds ofSouth Carolina (think beautiful beaches and balmy weather) make this region afirm favourite of the PGA TOUR champions, with world-class courses that offeran ideal mix of physical and technical challenges. For pretty obvious reasons,Hilton Head Island has been nicknamed ‘the golf island’ and is home to a hugenumber of private and public championship courses. It’s been voted in the topten of the best golf courses in the word (by Golf Digest), and we reckon if it’sgood enough for the pros, it’s good enough for us!
Harbour Town Golf Links
The original (and some say still the best) course on the island is this beauty designed by Pete Dye(in consultation with Jack Nicklaus); it has been delighting pros and amateurs for 40 years. Home to the PGA TOUR event the RBC Heritage, the course provides what some call one of the finest games in the world. You’ll need all your technical skills on point to pit yourself against the 18 holes of Harbour Town.

Heron Point
Heron Point is another Pete Dye design and is the new, very much improved version of the original Sea Marsh. In 2007 it underwent major reconstruction and Dye’s inimitable stamp is all over it, with a range of elevations, lots of unexpected hillocks, reshaped fairways and plenty of hidden obstacles to keep you on your toes. Dye really delved into his personal evil genius with this one and it provides one of the most exciting games on the island. If you think you’re up for it, that is.

Atlantic Dunes
Atlantic Dunes by Davis Love III uses the gorgeous natural landscape to create an absolutely fantastic game of golf. Surrounded by sand dunes, the fairways are lined with oaks and pines and the course is dotted with a host of imported plantings and grasses. However,it’s not just visually appealing – Love has incorporated plenty of elements to make for a very technical and strategic game in places.
