Discover the Dominican Republic
The Dominican Republic is located between the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. It is bordered by Jamaica, Cuba and the Bahamas. It occupies two thirds of the island of Hispaniola, which it shares with Haiti and extends over approximately 450 km from east to west and 250 km from north to south. This country, of nearly 49,000 km² and 9 million inhabitants, twice the size of Belgium, is the cradle of the Americas. Where the European adventure began, when a certain Christopher Columbus discovered it, in all its splendor, on December 5, 1492. Behind the success of its beaches and the blue of its waters hide many other riches: a heritage architectural and cultural unique in the New World, a diversity of landscapes marked by relief, but also a beautiful range of sporting activities and growing ecotourism.
Your golf holiday in the Caribbean
With its magnificent golf courses spread throughout the island, the Dominican Republic has positioned itself in a few years as a world-renowned golf destination with three of its golf courses designed by prestigious architects: Pete Dye designed the two of the Casa complex de Campo a la Romana and Robert Trent Jones designed the one at Playa Grande, on the north coast.
The Dominican Republic has no fewer than 32 golf courses, not counting the international competition courses currently under construction. Between Punta Cana on the South-East coast and Samana on the North-East coast, there are 20 courses – including 19 by the sea, like the Punta Espada Golf Club, whose atypical course literally hugs the rugged coast of the Caribbean Sea. Or let us also mention the Corales Golf and the La Cana Golf, both located in the heart of the Punta Cana Resort & Club: a breathtaking view of the ocean and several holes along the beach will leave you with an unforgettable golfing memory.
A high-end hotel offering
During your golf stay in the Dominican Republic, you will benefit from a first-class welcome, with a range of quality hotel offerings. The Barcelo Bavaro Palace Deluxe hotel is a good example. You will benefit from exceptional services with a treatment center, swimming pools, jacuzzis and fitness rooms. Casa de Campo is a luxury resort located in La Romana, on the southeast coast with 3 sumptuous golf courses on site. During your golf stay in the Dominican Republic, you can also take advantage of the infrastructure present at the resorts and have fun at the casino or nightclub, or even taste Caribbean gastronomy in one of the many restaurants in the area.
To complete accommodation in this part of the territory, around 15,000 new hotel rooms will be built over the next three years. Recently, the Jack Nicklaus course was completed in Cap Cana, and the 18 holes of the Punta Espada golf course which is part of the Cap Cana luxury tourism development plan are now fully accessible to golfers. Furthermore, Nick Faldo was recently in the Dominican Republic to supervise the construction of the Alto Verde course, currently undergoing landscaping work on the site of the new Westin Roco Ki Beach & Golf Resort, in the Macau region located north of Punta Cana.
