Introduction

Wokefield Park Golf Course is a stunning parkland course surrounding the historic 18th-century Wokefield Park mansion. Designed by renowned architect Jonathan Gaunt in 1996, the course was part of a £7 million redevelopment project of the successful 200-bed conference facility, which is now the headquarters for De Vere Venues. The site features undulating terrain with dramatic views over mature oaks, wellingtonias, and water features, extending to the rolling hills beyond. The course’s design was thoughtfully prepared in consultation with English Heritage to integrate it seamlessly into the important historic landscape, and it was expertly constructed in just nine months by Waterers Landscapes and M J Abbott.

In 1998, a year after its opening, the British Association of Landscape Industries (BALI) recognized the golf course with a National Award, commending its positive environmental contribution and the exemplary collaboration between the contractor, architect, and client. This prestigious accolade marks the only instance where BALI has commended a golf course. The 18-hole course provides a challenging experience for golfers of all skill levels, with multiple teeing areas on each hole, stretching from 6900 yards at the back tees to 5750 yards at the front markers. Wokefield Park has also hosted numerous top amateur and professional tournaments, solidifying its reputation as a premier golfing destination.
