This truly is the "Old Course" for it is said that as this is the course where the game was played in the fifteenth century. It originally consisted of 22 holes, but in 1764 the Society of St.Andrews Golfers (later to become the Royal and Ancient Golf Club) decided to lengthen some holes and this reduced the number to 18 holes - thus creating the world-wide standard round of golf. 112 bunkers make sure golfers keep on their toes.
