The ‘Undiscovered’ Gems on the European Tour

The European Tour is an elite competition, drawing in the very best in the sport from around the world. Part of the attraction for spectators of this great event is the multitude of beautiful and diverse golf courses on which the players compete. There are a number of ‘undiscovered gems’ amongst these world class resorts that are lesser known to the average golfer. Read on for an overview of these courses and you’ll be sure to find inspiration for a golfing holiday with something a little different.

Sometimes it’s great to feel like you’ve found the perfect holiday location that nobody else knows about – your own private paradise as it were! With a golfing holiday in mind, these courses aren’t completely unknown (they do feature on the European Tour after all), but they are certainly further from public knowledge than many others.

This course in Finland is impeccably maintained and is a real jewel in the heart of the beautiful natural environment, with 18 championship holes set amidst pine and birch forests. The practice facilities here are excellent if your swing is a bit rusty and, with three restaurants and a spa, you’re guaranteed a relaxing stay.

The Austrian countryside is renowned as being among the most beautiful in the world, so you know you’re in for something special here. The 18-hole Diamond course sits in the centre of fairy-tale scenery so you can gaze at attractive forests, tranquil lakes and lush greenery as you play. There are also two smaller courses that provide a slightly less stern but equally enjoyable test. The Boathouse restaurant is a highlight of the resort as it overlooks the stunning lake and is the perfect setting for a fine dining experience after your game.

‘The Stone Course’, which is hewn from an ancient archaeological site, provides a truly unique playing experience. History buffs will be impressed that some stones at the site have been embedded in the locations for around 5,000 years. Its sister course, ‘The Sea’, is equally impressive, meandering through forests on the edge of the Baltic Sea. This one is regularly rated amongst the top 100 courses in Europe.

This high altitude resort is situated 420 metres above sea level and features 1,200 newly-planted mature trees, several lakes and 65 bunkers. This makes it a tough challenge for even the most seasoned players, but it’s also definitely one to be enjoyed if you take it on! State-of-the-art practice facilities and a contemporary clubhouse ensure that this one is popular with the pros.

Tbilisi Hills resort is located at the base of the Caucasus Mountains. The course only opened in 2017 so is still not all that well known, but we’re convinced it has a very bright future, owing to the spectacular views and highly enjoyable 18 holes.
