A golfing holiday with a group of mates, social club or society is often a much-awaited opportunity to spend a weekend or longer doing exactly what we all love the most. However, if you’re the one landed with the job of sorting out the details of the trip (like choice of destination, transport, accommodation, organising tee time and so on), it can be a tad stressful.

Gone are the days (well, mostly) when courses were so elitist that they’d only allow players of a certain handicap on their greens. However, it’s still very important to know what standard everyone is at with their game so you can choose appropriate courses where everyone can feel the right amount of comfortable and challenged.
Read the Fine Print
Some high-profile resorts restrict access for groups to their championship courses so it’s important to know the fine print. Extended access can often be acquired at an extra cost, so make sure you ask and you can put it to the group as to whether this is something they want to add to the cost of the holiday.
Check Out the Facilities
When you arrive at your accommodation, you’re the one everybody’s going to come to with questions. Where’s the pool? Is there a gym? Where’s the cashpoint? How late does the bar stay open? Where can we get a snack? How do we get into town? Where’s the pro shop? Where are my shoes? How do you cure the common cold? Do your homework before you leave and make sure you know exactly what resort facilities are available to your group. (Of course, it goes without saying that you should be checking this out before you make a booking.)
These days it’s really easy to find out if a resort or course lives up to its hype. Before you decide on a destination or venue, put out your feelers on social media to get the real story from people who’ve been there and done that. It’s a great way to get genuine opinions, rather than simply relying on paid-for marketing. In terms of your game, it’s also a fantastic way to glean some insider tips on particular courses.
