An excellent test for the great (and not so great), it has been played by many leading world professionals – Ballesteros, Faldo, Langer, Norman and Lora Fairclough amongst them. Strategically placed trees and bunkers combine with the wind from the Shannon Estuary to place a premium on the “shot selection”. Water is a feature on a number of holes, the 6th, 7th, 8th, 14th, and in particular the 17th – a par 3 of 216 yards carry across the Shannon Estuary.
